Continuous tandem cold rolling mill’s advantage on steel quality and product efficiency
■ Extremely high production. Passing through several mills continuously, the strip can be rolled in one pass. It is non-stop rolling except from work roll change. But reversing cold mill’s production efficiency is lower as it needs to spend time on stopping the mill to load or unload coils, wait for strip pass, and speed up or slow down the rolling for each rolling pass.
■ High yield. Continuous rolling of tandem mill ensures the strips are rolled continuously from head to tail including welding line between coils under fully automatic thickness control system. But a dead zone exists during head or tail rolling in reversing mills which cause strip waste and lower yield compared with tandem mills rolling process.
■ Low power cost. Continuous tandem mill does not require coiling devices which are driven by high power motors and thus electricity is saved.
